The Katadyn Group is a global corporate group specialized in the area of nutrition and drinking water supply. With this broad brand portfolio, the group provides products and solutions for the outdoor and marine industries as well as for industrial needs. Its product offering ranges from freeze-dried specialty meals and outdoor cooking gear to mobile and land-based water desalination systems.

Business Needs

As Katadyn was rapidly expanding, so was their online presence and they needed a solution that would foster their digital growth.   Within their digital world, they had not only a main company website; but also, 8 brand websites, four micro sites, and many landing pages.  Without a suitable solution in place, the data for all these sites was decentralized, disorganized, and caused major business inefficiencies.  The web technology they were using was outdated and did not allow for responsive web design or data centralization.  There was no variation in templates which meant they were unable to provide individual brand presentations, making the overall design very weak.  The technology lacked many necessary features including e-commerce capabilities which meant no cross-selling between different brands and no ability to track website visitors.  Overall, the usability of their sites was very weak, especially for mobile users where it was almost non-existent.

Using Pimcore’s Product Information Management (PIM) solution, the framework was able to be tailored to the individual requirements of the Katadyn Group. They were able to create a modern design for each of their sites to provide a better user experience for their visitors.  They were able to implement Amazon CloudSearch and filtering options to help their users find what they were looking for.  A new common cross-domain cart allows customers to select products of different brands of the Katadyn Group and purchase them within one single order.

Business Results

The new solution allowed Katadyn to have a single source to maintain all data and process orders for all sites in one place.  The website’s product display was very attractive and each microsite was able to have its own unique design according to the offering being presented.   With all products being accessible in one place and being properly presented, customers were more likely to buy additional goods and this ultimately lead to increased sales and revenue for Katadyn.  The platform was user-friendly and offered a new and improved mobile-friendly web design. With the new search and filter functions, users were more easily directed to the right products and able to make the right purchase.  In the end, using Pimcore not only helped Katadyn develop efficient business processes for their digital presence; but also, helped them increase sales and revenue.
