Pimcore goes Workflow

On our quest to constantly improve pimcore and make it the most valuable platform for enterprises we are now introducing one of the most sought after features: Workflow Management.

Pimcore has already provided several ways of integrating workflows into the systems and our partners do so every day- but what has been missing is a generic best practice of configuring and integrating workflows as well as a generic user interface for editors working with pimcore.

With the tremendous help of Paul Clegg and his team from our partner Gather Digital Ltd we added this missing link and integrated a generic Workflow Management into pimcore that allows users to:

  • Configure a structured and orchestrated set of workflow steps to maintain and improve data quality
  • Configure actions for different workflow steps with user permissions and user notifications
  • Enter additional data (like notes, additional information, etc.) when executing workflow actions
  • Apply workflows on documents, assets and objects

The workflow management integrates nicely into pimcore backend, is extremely lightweight, and can be extended easily for customized use cases.

We are also planning on releasing additional documentation and a workflow demo to complement this new feature.  Additionally, we are looking forward to improvement ideas and the solutions that will be built based on new Workflow Management module.

Most importantly, we want to thank you our partners (in this case, especially Paul Clegg from Gather Digital) for their valuable contributions that help us make Pimcore a success.  As open source is all about sharing and contributing, we greatly appreciate your proactive collaboration and input.
