TinyMCE is back for Pimcore, now available in the Professional and Enterprise Editions. This is made possible through our official OEM agreement with Tiny Technologies Inc. The integration uses the latest TinyMCE 7 and supports Composer-based updates. The Community Edition continues to use Quill.

Why TinyMCE returns—and why Professional & Enterprise only

You told us loud and clear: We’re excited to share that TinyMCE is returning to Pimcore—now exclusively for the Professional & Enterprise Editions. Thanks to our official OEM agreement with Tiny Technologies Inc., we can once again offer the editor many teams told us they missed most. We originally stepped away from TinyMCE due to licensing changes; despite exploring alternatives, nothing matched TinyMCE’s balance of power and simplicity for complex editorial workflows.

With TinyMCE 7, editors get a noticeably smoother authoring UX: clean, predictable toolbars; context-aware controls that appear right where you’re working; fast keyboard shortcuts; best-in-class table editing that feels desktop-native; reliable paste-from-Word/Google Docs that preserves structure without messy markup; thoughtful accessibility prompts (like alt-text nudges); and a mobile/touch-friendly interface that stays usable in tight layouts. Media and link dialogs are streamlined, content CSS keeps output on-brand, and the mature plugin ecosystem covers advanced needs without overwhelming day-to-day authors.

Operationally, TinyMCE now ships as an Professional & Enterprise bundle with Composer-based updates, so you can stay current with improvements and security fixes without manual vendoring. Due to the OEM licensing terms, TinyMCE is available only in Pimcore Professional & Enterprise Editions. Community Edition continue with Quill—a solid, lightweight editor for many scenarios.

Migration guidance

For most projects, no major issues are expected—especially if you haven’t used custom TinyMCE extensions before.

• No custom extensions?
  Upgrade should be straightforward. Test in staging, validate key workflows, then roll out.
• Using custom extensions/plugins?
  Review Tiny’s TinyMCE 7 upgrade notes and adjust:
  • Deprecated APIs or config keys
  • Plugin renames/behavior changes
  • Toolbar/content CSS differences
  • Security-related changes impacting custom code

Always validate in a staging environment before going live.

Getting started (overview)

1. Confirm Professional/Enterprise eligibility
   Ensure your organization is on Pimcore Professional or Enterprise Edition (TinyMCE is not available for Community).
2. Install via Composer
   Add the Professional/Enterprise TinyMCE bundle to your project.
3. Enable & configure
