Case Study: Consulting Firm Provides Clients with Customized Trade Fair Maps
With more than 190,000 people, Capgemini is present in over 40 countries and is celebrating its 50th Anniversary year in 2017. A global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing services, the Group reported 2016 global revenues of EUR 12.5 billion.
Business Needs
Capgemini is one of the world's leading consulting companies. They have strategic partnerships with SAP, Salesforce and IBM. Their partners exhibit at various trade fairs. One of these trade fairs is CeBit Germany, the largest and most internationally represented computer expo. Each of Capgemini's partners has booths at CeBit. Capgemini wanted to offer their customers an individualized trade fair experience for CeBit 2017.
A challenge was that customers had no clue where partners booths were exactly located. They received no visual directions. Furthermore an already existing third party registration system sent no confirmation emails. This made finding and visiting Capgemini and partners at CeBit needlessly complicated.
The requirement was to automatically create individualized hall plans with signposts to expo booths. The individualized output should be based on existing data from the registration system. The output channel should be an email in the respective language of the participant.
Pimcore Solution
Together with Germany based pimcore partner Intera a pimcore based solution was developed.
Pimcore already offered many of the necessary building blocks out-of-the-box

The project managed by Intera included
- Creation of a holistic data structure and storage concept to be able to replicate the solution and match future requirements for other events
- Implementation of HTML mails based on existing designs
- Creation and caching of multi layered maps based on pimcore object data
- Project management (parties included customer, hosting company, registration forms service provider and external designer)
The existing registration database for customers and employees of Capgemini was connected to pimcore with a REST interface. Consumer data including interests was imported, aggregated and enriched. Events could easily be added in multiple languages in pimcore. For each event the participant now automatically receives an Email including the customized hall map. In this map all booths, which match the interests of the participant, are clearly marked. Participants also receive directions about how to find these booths. These maps are dynamically created in pimcore.
Business Results
With the Pimcore solution, which was integrated by Intera, customers are now able to easily find their way at one of the largest IT Events in Europe. The platform has positive branding effects for Capgemini and provides valuable information to current and prospective clients. Because of the solid pimcore foundation it can easily be extended for future events and additional API providers.
