Case Study: Recipes Database for Newspaper Publisher Eliminates Data Silos
The "Rezeptdatenbank" or recipes-database is used by the company to save, edit and select recipes used for all of the magazines published by Funke Mediengruppe. On top of that, there is an API to which mobile Apps are connected to get recipes filtered by parameters. Editors can also set a recipe of the day, that is published into the mobile apps.
Business Needs
Initially, the company was using a custom-built solution. The solution was not fast enough, had usability issues and data model problems. With a Pimcore solution, the company expected to be able to create a fast and stable tool which would be able to handle the growing number of database requests and recipe count.
Pimcore Solution
Leanatic, a Pimcore silver partner, built a data model on top of Pimcore. Process-oriented thinking, data modeling skills, performance optimization know how, UX-design, usability and of course PHP/Pimcore coding were necessary to create the new recipe database. The Pimcore object and asset manager is used to create and edit recipes as well as diets. For the output/filtering/view and selection of recipes as well as for the API, an elastic search database with a custom-built HTML/admin interface is used.
Business Results
The company needs now substantially less time to edit and publish new recipes. The new performance-optimized solution led to less waiting time while using the apps and simplified editing and creation of recipes/diets data.
