Starting a project completely from scratch on a greenfield site offers enormous planning freedom, but presents one central challenge: the lack of constraints from legacy systems causes expectations, ideas, and thus the scope of the project to grow rapidly. The task was not just to replace the obsolete CMS and PIM system. Instead, it was about creating a foundation for the company's entire digital future. In joint workshops, the teams had to develop a concrete, feasible roadmap from a wealth of visions. The list of requirements was long and complex: seamless integration of the e-commerce channel, automated product data export via BMEcat, customer-specific assortment exports, integrated translation tools, and customized workflow management. The challenge lay in bundling this multitude of core digital tasks into a single, future-proof architecture.

Clean reference of the Pimcore content using the twocream connectors

The technological answer is a modern best-of-breed architecture with Pimcore as its central core. Moving forward, PIM, MDM, and DAM converge seamlessly here. Legacy systems were replaced smoothly, data models optimized, and attributes harmonized. To ensure ongoing data quality, an automated SAP integration handles master data imports, including consistency checks. Customized publication objects control data output for the website and BMEcat. Shopware 6 acts as the frontend and e-commerce system, retrieving nearly all content from Pimcore via connectors developed by twocream. A major value-add is the automated image management: the transformation pipeline in Pimcore DAM automatically generates all images in the correct formats for different devices. Via the twocream DAM connector, these assets flow directly into the Shopware Shopping Worlds (Erlebniswelten) – creating a highly efficient, agile e-commerce platform.
