NMC Gains Autonomy and Speed: A Scalable PIM Built on Pimcore Enterprise

Need for a flexible PIM system 

The need for a high-performance PIM system didn't come out of nowhere. Customers were increasingly requesting detailed product information, especially for DIY products. "We received Excel files with hundreds of columns to fill in, but we didn't have a central database," says Bruno Beckers, BI & Customer Experience Manager at NMC. "It was extremely time-consuming and prone to errors." An initial attempt to streamline the process was with SAP's Hybris, then a PIM module within the SAP ecosystem.

However, that solution proved too heavy, too complex, and too focused on e-commerce functionalities that NMC didn't need. What they were looking for was a flexible system focused on product data, with room for growth and ease of use. "With SAP, for example, we had to create tickets for every small adjustment," says Bruno.

The impact on the organization is significant. Data is managed faster and more accurately. Thanks to features like bulk editing and the use of tabs and folders, employees can effortlessly manage large amounts of product information. Tabs and folders, for example, allow you to logically group products, for example, by type, application, or region.

This helps employees quickly navigate large data sets and find relevant information without margin for error. " What used to take hours or days can now be done in an instant, " says Bruno. Moreover, NMC can now respond much faster to new market demands and customer queries, without being dependent on IT support.
Besides greater ease of use and autonomy, Pimcore also offers a much lower Total Cost of Ownership than SAP Hybris.
