Natural Language Processing (NLP)

NLP has changed dramatically in recent years. Classic NLP pipelines consisted of several specialized stages (tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, syntax analysis), each with its own model. Modern NLP uses end-to-end models like Transformers that implicitly handle many of these tasks and deliver better results with less engineering effort.

In the product data context, NLP applications are diverse. Translation of product descriptions into multiple languages with cultural adaptation, automatic tagging for search indexes, sentiment analysis of customer reviews, classification of free text into structured attributes, semantic search that matches queries like gift for mother to products that fit that use case.

Pimcore uses NLP in several function areas. Product copy generation and translation through LLMs, semantic search on product data, automatic classification of product descriptions into structured attributes, sentiment analysis for customer reviews. Through the Agent SDK, custom NLP models can be embedded in production workflows, with the Data Spine as the factual basis.
