Point of Sale (POS)

The classic POS was an isolated register: scan barcode, read price, take payment. The modern POS is part of an integrated architecture: cross-channel inventory, customer account, loyalty points, recommendations, possible home delivery when the store is out of stock. That demands seamless data integration with every other sales channel.

The requirements on product data are higher than they appear. The POS needs current prices (including promotions and member prices), store inventory, product images for the staff tablet, advisory information for sales conversations, and ideally availability data for other stores. Without a consistent central data foundation, discrepancies between register, website, and app appear quickly.
