Resale Markets

Resale Markets are sales channels for used or refurbished products: ReCommerce platforms, in-house refurbishment programs, resale of returns. The segment grows double-digit, driven by sustainability and price sensitivity. Pimcore PIM manages resale products with their own lifecycle states, condition descriptions, and channel-specific listings, in parallel to the new-goods assortment.

Resale is no longer niche. Platforms like Vinted, Refurbed, and Back Market grow fast, manufacturers open their own refurbishment programs, and returns are resold instead of discarded. That lowers environmental impact, opens new audiences, and makes better use of existing inventory.

Data-wise, resale is demanding. A used product needs different descriptions than a new product: condition (very good, good, acceptable), damage description, warranty terms, testing and refurbishment history. At the same time, many attributes are derived from the new product and should not be maintained twice.

Pimcore PIM manages resale products as variants or as standalone data objects, depending on requirements. Inheritance from the new-product master saves maintenance effort, resale-specific attributes live structurally alongside. Channel-specific exports deliver resale platforms exactly the data they require, without resale becoming a separate data silo.
