SaaS has reshaped the software business. Instead of license fees plus maintenance there are subscriptions, instead of installation projects automatic cloud provisioning, instead of planned update releases continuous delivery. For many users that is a clear gain in speed and predictability.

There are trade-offs. SaaS vendors standardize their platforms because they run all customers on a common codebase. Deep customizations to the data model, workflows, or integrations are often only possible inside predefined paths. Data sovereignty and regulatory requirements can be hard to address in pure SaaS models.

Pimcore offers the PIM in three variants: Pimcore PaaS as a managed service on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; hybrid with combined cloud and on-premise components; or fully self-hosted. Platform functionality is identical in every variant, because Pimcore is open source and does not introduce artificial cloud limits.
