Gewerkschaft der Polizei
The German Police Union is the world's largest, with over 200,000 members. Since 1950, it has represented German police employees' interests in professional, social, economic, and cultural contexts.
A modern, visually powerful, and user-centered platform was created for the various state districts, directorate groups, and the federal board using a multi-tenant system with 35 websites. This platform unites the needs of both larger and smaller districts. Through digital member communication via the websites and the login area, members are to be effectively engaged and recruited.

The maintenance of the individual state and district websites is largely handled by volunteer editors: police officers work on the content and its publication after hours. An easy-to-use and reliable content management system is crucial for them. A significant challenge was to support and simplify editorial work in Pimcore with various technical aids without restricting the flexibility of more experienced editors. Additionally, the editorial content thus supported should appear dynamic and engaging in the output, regardless of the volume of content (text, images, etc.).
" Together with the GdP, we developed a highly flexible portal that actively supports the largely volunteer editors in their work within the CMS, helping them quickly and easily provide information to members. The relaunch successfully combined all relevant requirements for the union into an appealing and high-performance platform, while still meeting the specific needs of the state districts."

In addition to providing a positive user experience for website visitors, the focus was on making the work as comfortable and seamless as possible for editors. Daily tasks, such as creating story updates, were designed to balance minimal effort, available content (especially images), and high flexibility, consistently leading to appealing results. The 35 websites are standalone tenants, but a sharing function we designed allows content to be utilized across websites despite editorial access restrictions. This operates on a push-pull principle: to make content available to all editors, a district must actively share its content, which other districts can then subscribe to or selectively integrate into their own websites. Editorial work is further supported by an individual editor’s manual integrated into the CMS.
Thanks to the convenient maintenance options and flexibility, modern and intuitive websites have been created for everyone from smaller state districts to the federal board, effectively meeting the goals of member communication and engagement. Features such as a comprehensive and powerful search, a member login area, and a job exchange for officers support the content-driven aspect of the modern portal.
