As a frontrunner in the sports equipment rental market, INTERSPORT Rent – a service provided by INTERSPORT – operates more than 800 points of sale across Europe and Canada. 

In response to the growing trend of renting sports equipment online, INTERSPORT Rent sought to create a centralized portal for equipment rental across its international locations. The goal was to integrate this system with existing POS systems, accommodating diverse IT infrastructures, pricing, and more. Using Pimcore, the company launched a flexible web application that lets customers easily select and reserve their equipment online.

Centralizing the online rental process

INTERSPORT Rent faced the challenge of centralizing its rental process to offer its customers and dealers an easy, accessible online platform for equipment reservation. The company needed to address the requirements of integrating with existing POS systems, meeting country-specific needs, and managing a broad product catalog with variable customer information and dependencies. The goal was to enable effortless reservations through both mobile and desktop devices.


Pimcore’s integrated rental platform

To master these challenges, Salzburg-based digital agency elements suggested a central data management system for customer profiles, products, and reservations. Pimcore’s comprehensive solution was based on its Customer Data Platform (CDP) and Digital Experience Platform (DXP/CMS).

An elegant booking widget was introduced on the website, enabling customers to select different countries and shops and specify rental periods and quantities, followed by product selection and booking. This solution connected seamlessly to POS and newsletter systems, offering a unified, user-friendly booking experience.


A new era of customer convenience and efficiency

INTERSPORT Rent’s adoption of the Pimcore platform – as recommended by elements – has significantly improved its rental service and customer experience. The use of Pimcore has facilitated winter sports equipment rentals since 2011 and contributed to a notable sales increase in Germany. The platform’s mobile-friendly design and efficient booking process have also bolstered customer convenience and satisfaction, as evidenced by more than 300,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews.
