Case Study: Product Data and Digital Assets Consolidation Improves Creation of Multilingual Printable Materials
IVELA is a manufacturer of equipment for the OEM side of the lighting industry. The products are made entirely in the headquarter, located near Milan. All products are customized to the needs of end-customers and are intended for both indoor and outdoor lighting. ARIA is a division of IVELA specialized in the production of minimalist lighting solutions for the architectural sector.
Business Needs
IVELA needed to centralize the management of its product information and promotional publications. The client wanted to streamline the process of data collection, organization, and consolidation of information fetched from different sources, plus the management of multilingual translations of product content. Second important aspect was creating a better workflow for seamlessly sharing all the material information between internal departments, in particular with the sales force.Ultimately, IVELA wanted to simplify and increase the efficiency of printable documentation production flows with its organized data and improved asset and data approval workflows.
Pimcore Solution
For the management of a large amount of data and digital assets of IVELA, a solution has been proposed completely based on OIM with integrated DAM system to manage all the file types used by IVELA (images, videos, Adobe InDesign layout, and more). After having proceeded to populate the DAM system (a delicate process in which all the file system was imported, maintaining the categorization of the products and their tagging), the second phase of the project was the creation of the product data-model. During the configuration process, user groups with their roles were defined, and all the management interfaces were drawn according to the permissions for each user.
Once the phase of the data-modeling definition was finished, the process of database population began. Before proceeding with the catalog's production, it was necessary to reconcile the products with the relative assets present in the DAM.
An integration between OIM and Adobe Indesign was established to reduce the risk of errors on the page (the result of the most common methods of copy/paste) and the time of production and control of the pages produced.
Business Result
The solution has overcome the stumbling blocks of product data retrieval (various sources to manage) and asset cataloging. The constituted data-model is now able to send to the layout software, through a third-party plug-in, data, and assets for the creation of all printable material in the languages of all foreign markets in which the client operates. As per the feedback from the client: optimizing workflows, reducing downtime, and redundant information increase the quality of work.
