Customer

BTC Europe GmbH

As a subsidiary of BASF, BTC distributes chemical products for numerous industries. The services range from laboratory use and sample formulations to on-site problem solving.

Challenge

Scattered information

Before the start of the project, BTC Europe did not have a central location for managing product information and its metadata as well as associated documents. Various corporate systems provided certain attribute groups, but these could not be consolidated in a meaningful way. In addition, the sales department had to work with various Excel lists that defined which products could be sold in which countries and to which customers. The product know-how, especially regarding hierarchies and links, was often only in the heads of the specialists.

"The BTC product information management system serves as the single source of truth for all product-related information that connects to various input and output channels. Obtaining information from numerous data sources, it brings the entire BTC portfolio product closer to the main channels such as the website and the E-Commerce platforms. "

Solution

Consolidation

In addition to the implementation of optimal object class and attribute structures, the consolidation of existing data was the main focus of the project. For this purpose, all relevant data supplying systems were connected via interface (2x SAP/R3, 1x KAFKA Event Bus + 1x DataWarehouse) as well as existing data from Excel lists of the customer were imported. Thus, products, hierarchies, additional attributes as well as related documents from different sources could be linked. Here, the setting for Apache KAFKA is particularly noteworthy. This system is used to distribute structures and meta-information on product-relevant documents throughout the group at BASF level. In a multi-stage process, more than 2.2 million data objects have been created for documents in their language variants and release structures alone.

"In the project for BTC Europe, we were once again able to leverage the strengths of Pimcore for a successful solution. The connection of different data sources in combination with the highly flexible data model resulted in an optimal structuring of product and meta information. The inheritance logic significantly reduces the maintenance effort within product families."

Results

Information finally available centrally

With the commissioning of the new BTC PIM, the sales department of BTC Europe finally received a central platform in which both the product data itself and the sales hierarchies can be viewed. In addition, two end-customer portals can be automatically fed with the required data, so that up-to-dateness is guaranteed, especially with regard to security-relevant information.
