Digital Product Data Excellence for HVAC and Heating Manufacturers

One governed source of truth for products, components, and complete systems. Model a system once and publish it correctly to every wholesaler, reseller, contractor, and retailer the same day.

Systems, not single products

Every customer wants a different view of the same product data.

You build HVAC products: fans, valves, controls, and more. Your product data needs to reach wholesalers, resellers, contractors, retailers, and your own teams. Everyone wants to see it their own way, with different categories, specs, and units. And since products are rarely sold one at a time, things get complicated fast.

Customers buy systems, not single units, and only a few experts know how to put them together.

What goes in the box depends on the job, not a checklist. Usually, a veteran product manager assembles the order from memory. If they’re on vacation, quotes wait. If something’s missed, the contractor finds out too late and goes elsewhere next time.

Catalogs and datasheets are still built by hand.

Catalogs take months to finish, pieced together from spreadsheets and image folders. Datasheets are emailed and posted one by one, quickly going out of date. For global manufacturers, keeping up across languages and markets is nearly impossible. Distributors and contractors end up using outdated info, leading to mistakes and credits.

You can buy product data, but not a working model.

It’s easy to buy enhanced data, but where do you put it? Many manufacturers find themselves stuck, unable to organize new data while waiting on ERP projects. Sales notices first, usually when you can’t show a product in two categories at once.

A data model you define

Key capabilities for HVAC and heating manufacturers

Configured systems as records

A system is a composition. Pimcore models products, components, add-ons, kits, and the relationships between them, including replacement parts and supersessions, with attributes stored on the relationship itself rather than on either end. That is the data layer on which a system finder or a CPQ tool runs, and it is what lets a plumber or a ventilation engineer assemble a correct parts list without calling your product manager.

A classification model your technical lead can extend

Attributes live in a classification store: groups, features, values, and units. An attribute can belong to several groups, so one governed key serves different purposes in different contexts. Variants inherit from the parent and override where they differ. ETIM feature groups are modeled directly, and ETIM or BMEcat exchange files are handled through mapping or a plugin rather than a checkbox, which your implementation partner will scope with you.

Generated cut sheets and catalogs

Templates can pull from the live record, so a spec sheet requested today reflects today's data, including related products, accessories, and the branches that hold stock. Print catalogs and technical manuals are paginated via an InDesign integration. Web-to-print cut production of Bösch's 860-page catalog from 180 man-days to a fraction of that, a 92 percent gain in efficiency.

Channel views without channel copies

Channel-specific data sits in its own structure attached only to the products that need it: a retailer's title format and required attributes, a distributor's category mapping, a branch's stocked subset. Completeness is scored per channel, so a product that is ready for your own site and not yet ready for a retailer feed shows up as a work queue rather than as a rejected file.

Assets built for technical products

Images, technical drawings, CAD files, 3D models, installation instructions, and compliance documents are managed as product assets with metadata, versioning, and generated renditions. Store the master once and let thumbnails, watermarks, and channel sizes be generated from it.

Governed data quality

Mandatory attributes, format checks, and completeness scoring are configured for the model, and the results drive the reports your catalog team uses. Approval workflows route a product through marketing, technical, and compliance reviews, with each approver seeing only what they need to approve.

Outcomes HVAC and heating manufacturers see with Pimcore

less time

Spent managing product data at Walter Bösch, an Austrian HVAC manufacturer with 16,000 products.

32%
better sales efficiency

For complex systems, after a system finder let plumbers configure heating and cooling systems themselves rather than routing every job through a product manager.

92%
faster catalog production

Bösch's 860-page catalog went from 180 man-days per edition to a fraction of that, generated from the product record.

21%
higher sales

After Bösch moved B2B ordering from fax and phone to a marketplace connected to four ERP systems.

~30%
faster time to market

At Caleffi Hydronic Solutions, whose catalogs and technical manuals are paginated automatically in InDesign across up to 30 languages.

Customer spotlight: Walter Bösch

Founded in 1932 in Lustenau and now with close to 700 employees, Bösch is one of Austria's larger HVAC manufacturers, selling more than 16,000 products and managing 3,000 complex systems. With Salzburg agency Elements, Bösch put Pimcore's PIM and MDM underneath all of it: a multi-tenant B2B marketplace and an extranet connected to four ERP systems, a system finder that lets plumbers enter what they have and get back every part the system needs, and web-to-print for the catalog.

''Its data was scattered, ordering still ran on fax and phone, the 860-page catalog was compiled by hand, and configuring a system required an internal product manager each time. The results: 80 percent less time on product data, a 21 percent sales increase, 32 percent better sales efficiency on complex systems, and 92 percent off catalog production.''

Frequently asked questions

Can Pimcore model a configured system, not just individual SKUs?
Yes. A system is a composition of products, components, add-ons, and kits, with attributes stored on the relationship rather than on either end. That is the data layer a system finder or CPQ tool runs on, so the parts list survives beyond one person's memory.
Can we extend the attribute model ourselves, or does every change need a developer?
Feature groups, features, values, and units live in a classification store your technical lead extends directly. An attribute can belong to several groups, so one governed key serves different contexts without a schema rewrite.
How does Pimcore handle metric and imperial units in the same catalog?
Conversion is a property of the attribute, not a note in a spreadsheet. Units of measure sit in the classification store alongside feature groups, features, and values, so imperial measurements on one line and metric on the next are handled by the model rather than by hand.
Our retailers and distributors each want a different category structure. Does that mean separate records?
No. Your structure, the retailer's structure, and the branch's stocked subset are publishing views of one record. Completeness is scored per channel, so a product that is ready for your site but not for a retailer feed shows up as a work queue rather than a rejected file.
Can cut sheets and the print catalog be generated from the product record?
Yes. Templates can pull from the live record, so a spec sheet requested today reflects today's data. Print catalogs and technical manuals are paginated through an InDesign integration. Walter Bösch cut production of its 860-page catalog from 180 man-days per edition to a fraction of that, a 92 percent gain.
Is Pimcore SaaS or self-managed?
Pimcore is not classic multi-tenant SaaS. Run it in your own cloud or on-premises, or choose the Pimcore enterprise PaaS for a managed option without having to re-platform later.
