Industry · Wholesale Distribution
One governed source of truth for item, supplier, and customer data. Map a supplier's file once and publish every item correctly to every branch, dealer portal, marketplace, and EDI feed the same day.
The data you don't control
Suppliers send spreadsheets, price lists, or just PDFs. Usually, one small team matches up all the columns and descriptions, so your catalog is only as big as the team can type. Most products are unknown to buyers or reps because the data just isn’t there.
ERP has prices and item numbers; the catalog has images and descriptions. Both are incomplete, and info drifts apart. In regulated industries, this means real risks such as wrong allergen or origin data, leading to returns, credits, and compliance headaches.
Dealer portals, marketplaces, EDI feeds, and print catalogs all need different formats and attributes. Distributors usually pull reports, edit spreadsheets by hand, and upload them everywhere, fixing the same error over and over, and still missing some.
One record, many shapes
The Pimcore Data Importer ingests CSV, XLSX, JSON, and XML from files, SFTP, uploads, or APIs, allowing you to map data to your product and master data records without code. Data is validated and previewed before committing. Imports run on a schedule, and logs record what failed. When a supplier changes its file, you update the mapping once instead of retyping the catalog.
North American distribution has no single classification winner and is not about to get one. Electrical distributors work through IDEA Connector, whose Harmonized Data Model normalizes between UNSPSC PAS/CAS and ETIM BMEcat. PHCP-PVF distributors have the ASA Product Data Standard. Foodservice runs on GS1 GTINs and GDSN data pools. Pimcore’s classification store lets attribute groups differ by category, and catalog hierarchies sit independently of the product taxonomy, so you map once into your model and out to each destination instead of picking a winner and rebuilding the day a large customer wants the other one.
Set mandatory attributes and validation rules by product class, then check completeness on a dashboard instead of chasing an exception report. Workflows route items through enrichment, review, and approval on parallel paths, so merchandising, compliance, and ecommerce can work on the same item at the same time without overwriting each other. Permissions are granular by workspace, attribute, language, and channel. Compare and merge tooling shows field-level differences when you consolidate catalogs after an acquisition.
One record, many shapes. Channel dimensions and localized fields hold the marketplace description alongside the dealer description, and the French your Canadian customers require by law alongside the English. The Pimcore Data Hub publishes through REST, GraphQL, scheduled file drops, and webhooks, so a punchout catalog, an EDI 832 feed, a marketplace listing, and your own storefront all draw from one source rather than from six exports nobody owns.
Distributors ship documents as well as products: safety data sheets with chemicals, allergen and traceability records with food, material declarations with electronic components. Each one belongs to a specific item, supplier, or plant, and each one expires. Pimcore keeps each document with its item, supplier, or plant, with version history, instead of on a shared drive where someone has to find it by file name. The expired certificate stays on file and off the listing, which is the difference between an audit trail and an audit finding.
Distributors have a long tail on both sides of the business. One counted roughly 10,000 active customers and 80,000 bill-to and ship-to combinations, and found that vendors pricing by record count became prohibitive. Pimcore’s MDM tools allow customer, vendor, and product masters to exist in one cohesive solution.
Up from 10%. Wainbee standardized supplier CSV and XLS files into one model across 600,000 products.
Up from 2%. HARDY SCHMITZ rebuilt 300,000 products on one platform and exposed the procurement interfaces its customers use.
With duplicate data reduced by 25%, measured across the same HARDY SCHMITZ rebuild.
Nine companies, six countries, seven languages. W.EG consolidated nine separately grown electrical wholesale businesses without forcing one taxonomy on any of them.
Instead of four disconnected systems. Distribution Strategy Group’s 2026 survey of 233 North American distribution executives found that 55% have invested in ERP, CRM, ecommerce, and analytics but have not integrated them.
Only 10% of the catalog was online, and every supplier file had to be standardized by hand before it could be loaded. Today, 100% of the catalog is online, managed from one place.
More than 600,000 products. Every supplier format. 100% of the catalog online.
