Case study: HVAC giant Bösch improves sales & ordering with Pimcore

Founded in 1932 in Lustenau, Walter Bösch’s company has grown into a key player in the HVAC sector in Austria. Today, Bösch employs close to 700 people and sells 16,000+ products.

The company tackled its operational inefficiencies head-on by implementing Pimcore’s Product Information Management (PIM)/Master Data Management (MDM) platform. This move addressed their scattered data maintenance system, outdated ordering processes, and labor-intensive product catalog production. The result was a significant leap in productivity and sales efficiency.

Challenge

Overcoming inefficiency and modernizing sales processes

Bösch faced multiple challenges, including a disorganized data maintenance system, an outdated ordering process reliant on fax and phone, and the cumbersome task of manually creating an 860-page product catalog. Plus: Configuring HVAC systems was complex and required the assistance of Bösch’s internal product managers. Hence, they aimed to develop a search tool enabling plumbers to input product details to generate all necessary system parts.

With 16,000 products and 3,000 complex systems to manage, the company urgently needed a solution to streamline data consolidation, modernize their B2B marketplace, and automate catalog production. Salzburg-based digital agency elements recommended Pimcore to address these challenges.

Solution

Pimcore’s comprehensive digital platform

Pimcore’s integrated PIM/MDM platform centralized Bösch’s product data, enabling efficient management and access. A multi-tenant B2B marketplace and extranet connected to four ERP systems were developed, modernizing the ordering process.

Additionally, a robust system finder was created to help plumbers configure heating and cooling systems effortlessly. For catalog production, Pimcore’s web-to-print feature automated the creation of Bösch’s extensive product catalog, significantly reducing manual tasks and production time.

Results

Efficiency gains and sales growth

The implementation of Pimcore’s solutions led to an 80 % reduction in time managing product data, allowing Bösch to focus on strategic business initiatives. The new B2B ordering system resulted in a 21 % increase in company sales. The system finder feature improved sales efficiency for complex systems by 32 %. And the automated catalog production process reduced the time needed from 180 man days to a fraction – a whopping 92 % improvement in efficiency.
