ECKOLD, a mechanical engineer from the Harz region, produces machines and tools that are used in automobile and aircraft construction, in ship and wagon construction, and even in the space industry. ECKOLD is considered a technology pioneer in the industry. So why not become a digital pioneer too? We have created the basis for the company's entry into the digitally supported creation of communication media - an intelligent and central media asset management.

Business Challenge

The project's challenge was to sensibly channel all the assets like training documents, user reports, images, illustrations, and videos, store them centrally, and make them accessible to many users. Before introducing the Media Asset Management (MAM), the lack of keywording company assets, and the decentralized storage of these files made it difficult to find them. As a result, sales and marketing took too long to create new materials or find the required assets. As ECKOLD is active internationally and publishes in multiple languages, it was imperative to provide a clear view.

Pimcore Solution

A particular highlight in MAM development was the establishment of sophisticated roles and rights management. For compliance reasons, not every ECKOLD employee is allowed to access, edit, or change content. Thanks to Pimcore, every publication of content now requires compliance with defined workflows. Particular functionalities in this project at a glance: 

  • Linking Active Directory from ECKOLD
  • Development of different views for roles (for the targeted editing of assets in MAM)
  • Introduction of workflow manager to control the processing and approval as well as the visibility of assets for different roles
  • Role-specific and rights-based output of assets for different roles
  • Extension of tagging by the number of hits in search filters
  • Integration of the display of properties instead of just metadata
  • Email function for sending collections
