Case Study: Accelerated Catalog Production Platform for Manufacturing Company
Product data from the ERP is enriched in Pimcore with media data and additional information. Experience channels are a bilingual website and an automatically created web-to-print catalog.
Business Needs
Formerly the presentation of content was done in the CMS TYPO3. Product data had to be stored in a separate database because the CMS was lacking the capability to manage structured product data. Catalog production had to be done manually as well, using a dedicated Web2Print application. No steady maintenance of product data was possible because the data was stored in a cut-off database. A lot of manual work was required and a lot of work had to be done twice in different systems.
Pimcore Solution
First, an interface to import ERP product data to the PIM was established. Uploading and Tagging Media Assets was the next step. Enrichment of the ERP data in the PIM with additional information and referencing them with Media Assets followed. Based on a template the catalog for an upcoming trade fair could now already be rendered automatically. Also, the website content is now solely based on this consistent data repository.
Updating the product print catalog was a manual process in a separate system. Now the product catalog can be updated directly in Pimcore. In a single interface which is used for maintaining the website and the product data as well. A redesign of the web appearance was done too. Maintenance of content can now be done in one system, which combines CMS, PIM, and MAM.
Business Results
The acceleration of production processes for catalogs led to substantial cost reductions in multiple departments. Optimizing the publication of product information increased data quality and workflows. Access to always up-to-date product information for customers via the website is expected to substantially drive sales. The Pimcore platform is free of any licensing cost, therefore IT cost decreased substantially.
