The Augustiner-Keller is one of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in Munich. Especially the beer garden is known worldwide and popular with tourists and locals.
The new website based on Pimcore combines the long tradition of the Augustiner Keller with a modern design and a high usability: The guest can easily find his way around and has all important information at a glance, and the maintenance in the backend is quite intuitive thanks to Pimcore.

Modern website for traditional restaurant with beergarden
To make the guests of the Augustiner Keller feel welcome not only in the inn and beer garden, but also on the homepage, the web presence was to be redesigned and brought up to date - both in terms of design and usability. The highly internationally visited website with traffic of over 70,000 visitors per month forms an attractive environment for the relaunch.
Special requirements included the integration of a voucher and a reservation function, the integration of social media channels to increase interaction with visitors and the possibility to publish current content (daily menus, special events, etc.). At the same time, the maintenance of the content in the backend must be as user-friendly as possible.
Last but not least, in keeping with the cosmopolitan hospitality of the Augustiner Keller, the site was to be rolled out in seven languages and - in keeping with Bavarian Gemütlichkeit - also in a Bavarian variant.
Solution
Website with modular structure and mobile-first approach
We built the new homepage modularly on the basis of Pimcore, so that a flexible output of content is possible. In doing so, we clearly took a mobile-first approach, i.e. we thought about the page from the smartphone and expanded it for the desktop application in a second step. The decisive factor here is that visitors have all the important information at a glance right from the start.
In terms of design, we paid particular attention to a clear division into clear subject areas and a consistent look and feel across the entire site architecture.
The internationalization of the website was easy with Pimcore. And thanks to the WYSIWYG approach, maintaining existing content and integrating new content is no problem, even without in-depth knowledge.
"A small project, implemented with 100% passion and lots of love, for our second living room, the Augustiner Keller Munich."
Michael Brodschelm, CEO, MDS
Results
Significantly improved user experience and usability
With the new homepage, the Augustiner-Keller has a high-performance and contemporary web presence: the time visitors spend on the site has increased, and the site's Google ranking for relevant search terms has risen significantly.
But it's not just the user experience that has been improved; thanks to Pimcore, the usability for maintaining and managing the website is now very clear and straightforward. In addition, the Pimcore basis lays the foundation for further technical extensions - such as a store function or the streaming of live events.
