We’re driving Deutsche Bahn’s green transformation forward
Deutsche Bahn AG is Germany’s largest rail company and has also been active internationally for many years. DB AG implements numerous digitization projects and thus invests, among other things, in the future of the rail network.
For environmentally-friendly travelers, getting around by train is a welcome option. But Deutsche Bahn offers them even more: the website we created for the "Das ist grün" campaign chronicles exactly how the company is achieving its green commitments. The site offers engaging multimedia content that the Bahn editorial team can now easily create.

One website. All the information. "This is green."
As the central digital touchpoint of DB's "Das ist grün" campaign, a new website had to be developed that would fit seamlessly into the company’s nationwide communications. As part of the relaunch, editors needed more flexibility in the ways they engage readers. In addition, the website needed to be established in the long term as a medium for documenting the rail company's numerous environmental projects. To this end, we created an easy-to-understand and flexible content management system that allows Deutsche Bahn's editorial team to work independently.
Solution
A scalable, intuitive content hub for all DB environmental projects
Information on more than 160 of Deutsche Bahn's environmental protection measures is now collected in a central content hub, offering website visitors interesting background knowledge about these environmental initiatives. Editors can use the platform to manage multimedia content, such as videos from a nationwide campaign, event images, and work by well-known poetry slammers. Interactive graphics and applications have also been integrated into the hub. It’s now easy for editors to create engaging web content.
Results
A flexible modular system for editors
With more than 35 modules, DB editors now have a versatile toolkit to independently produce exciting multimedia content in two languages simultaneously. We developed the CMS based on Pimcore and a modern user interface in an agile manner in just two months. We paid special attention to the platform’s design and user-friendliness, which is, of course, hosted using electricity from renewable sources. The project’s success is in the numbers; directly following the new site’s launch, key figures for visitors, visit duration, and pageviews skyrocketed and have since remained at sustainably high levels.
