Case Study: Central Product Data in One System Thanks to Pimcore
Hygiene, cleaning and occupational safety directly from the manufacturer. For 45 years. That is the motto of Franz Mensch from Germany. The family-owned company produces and trades disposable articles, hygiene clothing and industrial safety products. Franz Mensch used the change of a shop system to introduce Pimcore as a new PIM system. In order to keep all product data in one place for the first time. And to supply other channels with current product data in addition to the online shop.
The company has been active in e-commerce for many years with a B2B online shop. As part of a relaunch, the shop system was changed from OXID eShop to Shopware. Beyond that Franz Mensch wanted to introduce a PIM system for managing product data. The company wants to simplify the maintenance of the data and standardize the processes in the creation of article data. The PIM should also automatically generate and provide important documents such as technical data sheets and standards.
After an intensive selection phase, Franz Mensch decided on Pimcore and the Shopware PIM interface of scope01. The Internet agency from Frankfurt am Main adapted the PIM system Pimcore to the company's requirements as part of the project.
Procedure in the PIM project for Franz Mensch
For the introduction of the PIM system at Franz Mensch, scope01 first conducted a kick-off workshop. In particular, the extensive tasks were subdivided into subprojects. The first challenge was the definition of the data model with different derivations. In addition to the classic master data, many specific fields for the online shop, packaging and other marketing channels also play an important role.
After defining the data model for the PIM system, additional information has been added for each data field. These included, for example, field types, length limits or control functions after import. After completing the integration of all fields into the PIM system, scope01 implemented the so-called custom layouts for the different authorization roles. For each department of Franz Mensch, a defined view of part of the product data was integrated and structured into logical processes. This means that employees only see the fields in the PIM that they require for processing the product data according to their role.
The initial import of the product and variant data took place via several CSV files in Pimcore. For this, scope01 has developed an importer, which prepares data from the ERP system or replaces values in addition to the pure import.
In addition, scope01 has implemented a second export in addition to the export of the data to the online shop. Thus, the necessary master data of a product in the form of a technical data sheet are exported as PDF. These PDF documents are also available in the new online shop in German and English. Further versions are planned in the near future.
The online shop based on Shopware was implemented in-house in the company. Due to its experience as Shopware Partner, scope01 has supported this implementation in an advisory capacity and has taken on some subtasks in the e-commerce project.
