Case Study: Digital TV Magazine Provider Relaunches Its Portal with New Design and Features

Hörzu is a pioneer of TV program guides. Today, the magazine offers not only an overview of TV programming, but also general topics and background information.

There was a complete relaunch of hoerzu. The goal was a completely responsive web design that runs under one domain and not - as before - there was a distinction between mobile domain m.hoerzu and desktop domain hoerzu.de. In addition, there were optimizations regarding performance, playout and content maintenance.

Complex requirements - maximum performance and still lean design

The website hoerzu.de was to be completely responsive and quickly accessible via a single domain. To increase the time spent on the site and the number of clicks, the content also had to be presented in a clear and user-friendly way. In this context, the requirements also included optimizing and facilitating content maintenance, developing a new EPG and responsive ad slots, and working out a better caching structure to reduce loading time for the user.
Case Study: Marcel Strobel, Head of Entertainment
"The relaunch of our website was an important step in improving our digital presence and providing our customers with an even better user experience. We are excited about the changes and look forward to hearing the positive feedback from our visitors."
Marcel Strobel, Head of Entertainment
Solution

Layout according to Atomic Design principles with comprehensive caching concept.

As requested by the customer, a responsive design was developed for the website. A distinction between mobile domain (m.hoerzu) and desktop domain (hoerzu.de) is now no longer necessary. In addition, with the filter menu, a new feature was added that facilitates the search within the TV program and thus increases user-friendliness. The installation of clean sitemaps and clearly stored metadata for over 100,000 pages guarantees optimal indexability for search engines. The extensive caching concept ensures very short loading times even with a high workload and constantly or spontaneously changing content (e.g. special broadcasts). In addition, the current setup now also enables a white-label solution for further projects.
"In successful cooperation with Funke Digital, we managed to merge complex backend and frontend requirements ideally and flexibly in order to achieve the desired goals. We are very pleased that the new UX/UI of the Hörzu TV program has been very well received not only by our client but also by its users."
Andreas Freitag, Project Manager
