Knauf Ceiling Solutions is obliged to offer accurate documentation for all products by providing so called "Declarations of Performance". The previously used platform was outdated and no longer met the company's requirements. A new portal was needed to provide easy access, match the new branding, and offer a set-up which is future-proof.

Systematic management of documents

All documents are created at Knauf Ceiling Solutions and uploaded to an existing asset management system. Some of the documents are available in up to 25 languages. However, the existing DAM system lacks the possibility to enrich the documents with further meta data and to create a link to the associated products. As a result, the documents could not be provided in a structured manner to the user. Another challenge in the frontend was to provide a simple and intuitive access for the users despite the high number of documents and language versions. It was important to ensure that users can find the documents they are looking for in a quick and efficient way.

Solution

Pimcore as a data hub for structured management

Documents are transferred from the DAM system to the Pimcore backend using an existing interface from the MuleSoft platform and are synchronized at regular intervals. Language versions of documents are automatically created based on a defined nomenclature in a 1:n relationship. The editors enrich the documents in Pimcore with additional meta data and assign them to the products before the documents are published in the frontend. For users in the frontend, it is also possible to download several documents at once using the basket functionality and a ZIP download.

Headless integration for a sustainable download portal

The new portal facilitates the fast and direct path to the required documents by providing smart filters and a structured list view. The headless approach to the system architecture using the Pimcore datahub allows Knauf Ceiling Solutions to use the portal in other applications in the future. In addition, the platform is designed to serve as a holistic and global download portal for the Knauf Ceilings Group in the future.
