Case Study: Digitization and centralization of data maintenance for NUK with PIMCORE PIM/MDM
Present in 90 countries and active in the areas of baby care (NUK brand), home care, health care & industrial products. For more than 50 years, NUK has been offering new solutions that make everyday life easier for parents and their children.
The introduction of the PIM system enables MAPA GmbH to manage all data relating to the extensive product range of the NUK brand in a central solution. NUK needed a reliable workflow that could effectively facilitate and distribute the constant updating of detailed product data. Positive outcome of the lighthouse project within MAPA: Higher data quality and consistency as well as more compact workflows.

Wide range of requirements
Until now, product information from NUK could only be managed decentrally and consolidated with a great deal of manual effort. Although the article master data could be maintained and retrieved in the SAP system (ERP), only a part of the total data required by product managers, the e-commerce team, the Amazon team and many other employees was available here. Overall, the data management was rather intransparent, confusing, error-prone and inefficient. A PIM system should offer modern architecture, future-proof technology and optimized workflows to make product data management as centralized and efficient as possible. The objective in introducing Pimcore was therefore to simplify and centralize data maintenance in order to ensure content consistency and maximize data quality. The connection of the existing SAP as the leading system as well as the connection of the PIM system to various output channels - including the GDSN network as well as Amazon - were fundamental requirements.
Automation and centralization
After a detailed consideration of various PIM systems, MAPA GmbH decided on the Pimcore PIM solution. Pimcore's partner was team neusta from Bremen, which was awarded the contract for the overall implementation of the project, including technical design, development and implementation. The go live took place after about half a year of analysis, conception, development and QA. Central to the project was the implementation of the PIMCORE PIM solution in order to be able to maintain product data in a central location in the future. The SAP system, as the leading merchandise management system and source of the product master data, was linked to the PIM - from there, the data runs via an API into the PIM in order to subsequently enrich the master data there and process it for the output channels. There, they are supplemented with other data from other systems, both manually and automatically. This includes, for example, the existing connection of the NUK DAM, based on the provider Bynder.
Central and efficient data management
The strategic decision of a PIM leads to long-term and permanent efficiency gains in all processes in which the product data are involved: The collection, maintenance and preparation of product data as well as its provision for various output channels could thus be made more compact and data sources and redundancies reduced. Thanks to the PIM system, data is now stored in a central location. The powerful PIM functions of Pimcore enable MAPA GmbH to manage and present comprehensive product information. Selected MAPA employees, who are among the first users of the PIM, are currently acting as pioneers for other NUK employees. MAPA/NUK is currently working with team neusta to further develop the platform. In the future, the PIM will also be used for other MAPA GmbH brands. Further download and export options are to enrich the range of functions, and additional output channels such as the NUK Magento stores are also being planned, which in turn will include multilingual management.
