Case Study: PIM System for Music Retailer Ensures Consistent Product Data
MUSIC STORE is a specialized trade for musical instruments, musician accessories, stage, recording studio and DJ equipment based in Cologne. The main focus of the product range is on band instruments. This focus on the needs of pop and rock musicians is complemented by a range of acoustic string and wind instruments as well as musical instruments for school use.
Business Needs
MUSIC STORE needed a new way to centrally maintain texts and information about articles. Especially an editor for the detailed marketing texts (the so-called long texts) of the various musical instruments was needed for SEO measures and to maintain an identical appearance. Furthermore, the editor should be modular in order to adapt the texts for different marketplaces. An automatic translation into several languages was needed. In addition, the products were to be delivered to other channels, e.g. Amazon, EBay and other marketplaces.
Pimcore Solution
In the first project phase, all required data from the various sources were collected by the implementation partner Sylphen GmbH & Co. KG. Categories, prices, general product information, attribute lists, return and bundle information were taken from the ERP system Navision. Existing long texts in HTML format were imported from Intershop and stored in a new long text data structure in Pimcore. The long text editor was then developed. Various modules such as images, WYSIWYG texts, combinations of both, videos or sound clips can be added, edited and rearranged in one or two columns. A transformation into the formats for Intershop and the different marketplaces was created.
Business Results
The controlled forms ensure a uniform product text and it can now be created and edited easily, quickly and securely. The data quality is significantly increased, as all information is now maintained in only one place and is therefore identical in all shops. The "time-to-market" has also been significantly reduced, as the products no longer have to be manually recorded and released in the various marketplaces.
